Deadline | Receiving Proposals for Thematic Issues Sextant (December 1st)

1 December

Sextant, a journal published by the Éditions de l’Université de Bruxelles (ULB) with the support of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS), is launching a call for proposals for its thematic issues to be published in 2027 and in 2028.

Sextant is an international and interdisciplinary journal focusing on women’s, gender, and sexuality studies (social sciences, history, literature, law, etc.). It publishes original articles in French and English, subject to a double-blind peer review process. The journal’s annual thematic issues are available in open access (via OpenEdition Journals) and also published in print by the Éditions de l’ULB.

Each issue offers a collective reflection on a specific topic. It is coordinated by one to three researchers and includes approximately 8 to 12 articles. The coordinators propose the theme (within the scope of women’s, gender, and/or sexuality studies) and draft a call for papers. In accordance with the timeline outlined below, the coordinators of selected issues commit to:

  • collecting proposals for contributions;

  • ensuring the scientific quality and originality of submitted articles before peer review;

  • guaranteeing the coherence of each article with the overall issue;

  • verifying that each submitted article includes an abstract, author biography, keywords, and complies with the journal’s editorial standards.

The editorial team of Sextant will then oversee the peer review process, layout, and online publication, ensuring the scientific quality and coherence of the issue throughout all stages of production, up to the final decision to publish.

We invite interested researchers to submit a proposal for a thematic issue including:

  • a provisional title and a presentation of the scientific orientation of the issue (maximum one to two pages), accompanied by a suggested bibliography;

  • a tentative list of planned contributions;

  • a short CV of the proposed coordinator(s).

Proposals will be reviewed by Sextant’s editorial board. Coordinators of selected issues will receive editorial support throughout the publication process, in collaboration with the Éditions de l’ULB.
