Conference | State of the Art in Gender Studies

For our next event on the 12th and 13th of November 2025 at Pianofabriek, Sophia is holding the sixth edition of her conference on the state of the art in gender studies in Belgium. Gender studies are fundamental to better understand, explain and question social inequality processes across our societies. In a context where these studies are increasingly challenged, our aim is to highlight their richness and their power while rooting them in an interdisciplinary framework.

We are therefore happy to launch our call for contributions, which is open until the 1st of June 2025. For this edition, Sophia has developed four thematic streams reflecting a broad yet non-exhaustive range of topics:

• Gender-based violence
• Care
• Bodies
• Space

Contributors are welcome to submit to one or more streams as the interdisciplinary nature of gender studies allows for many overlaps. Even if your work does not align perfectly with the streams, we warmly encourage you to apply and help us expand the scope of our conference.
