ARC-GS National Prize for Best Social Science Master Thesis in Gender and Sexuality Studies 2018

Launched in September 2010, the Amsterdam Research Center for Gender and Sexuality (ARC-GS) promotes gender and sexuality studies within the social sciences at the University of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and beyond. Aside from facilitating research synergies, its educational mission involves encouraging and valorizing advanced social science students working in the field. The 2018 ARC-GS Prize will award the best gender and/or sexuality studies master thesis in the social scientific disciplines in the Netherlands. Graduates from all over the country are encouraged to apply.

Conditions to qualify

– You have completed your master program in the social sciences (sociology, anthropology, political science, geography, economics, history) at a Dutch university;
– Your thesis must have been completed between 31 October 2017 and 31 October 2018;
– Your thesis can be written in English or in Dutch;
– Your thesis must be based on theoretically informed empirical research carried out independently;
– Gender and/or sexuality must be a central element of your research focus;
– Your obtained thesis grade should be 8 or higher.

How to proceed

– Provide two (double-sided) printed copies of your thesis to:

– Send a pdf version of your thesis to arcgs@uva.nl

– Enclose a grade transcript or certificate from your home university indicating your thesis grade and the number of ECs for which thesis counts.

Deadline for submissions: 31 October 2018

The prize will be awarded on Friday 14 December at the beginning of the ARC-GS monthly lecture, and the amount of the prize is €500.
